Sunshine Health Works Scholarship

In partnership with Sunshine Health, the HCC Foundation is offering the Sunshine Health Works Scholarship to assist individuals seeking to work in the healthcare field. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide educational opportunities in entry-level medical disciplines that result in nationally accredited certifications and job placement assistance.

Applicant must be a Florida resident, 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED, have the ability to cover 10% of the current tuition rate for the selected course, attest interest to work in the healthcare field, and attest the need of financial support to cover remaining tuition for the approved course. Also, a background check is required for clinical rotation.

The Sunshine Health Works Scholarship can help new and existing students!

For New Students:

The Sunshine Health Works Scholarship offers up to 90% of tuition costs for eligible students pursuing certification in one of the following allied health fields:

The Sunshine Health Works Scholarship Program covers 90% of the cost associated with the approved courses below. Therefore, the student must pay 10% of tuition. Funds from the program must be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, examination, books, and materials.

For Existing Students:

If you have successfully completed all portions of one of the following classes with Hillsborough Community College’s Institute for Corporate & Continuing Education within the past 6 months, you may be eligible for the Sunshine Health Works Scholarship, which provides related industry exam vouchers to students wanting to work in the healthcare field. 

  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • EKG Technician
  • Phlebotomy Technician
  • Patient Care Technician
  • Clinical Medical Assistant

Available exam vouchers include retest exam vouchers of your included industry certification exam as well as additional certifications related to the knowledge you gained through your successful completion. 

Please only complete the application if you successfully completed your class and meet the minimum eligibility criteria.

Job placement assistance will be provided to all successful students, however, HCC cannot guarantee full-time employment.

  3. Receive Award Notification and Registration Instructions
  4. Register for the Approved Course
  5. Provide Your Exam and Employment Results to HCC|ICCE Staff

Healthcare Approved Course

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) 

Master skills of a medical assistant by learning methods of preparing patients for examination and treatment, running electrocardiographs (EKGs), and performing routine laboratory procedures including phlebotomy (blood draw). Gain hands-on experience with critical procedures and concepts in collecting patient history and vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, pharmacology, medical records, professional workplace behavior, ethics, and the legal aspects of healthcare. You will also complete an introduction to medical terminology, healthcare etiquette, and healthcare customer service to stand apart from others in a competitive job market.

Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible to take the CMA, Phlebotomy, and EKG technician exams through National Healthcare Upon completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, and EKG/Telemetry Technician certification exams through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) receiving up to three certifications!

Patient Care Technician  

A patient care technician course is a comprehensive program that prepares individuals for a career in health care. This course provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist medical professionals in providing quality care to patients. From learning about vital signs and medical procedures to understanding patient communication and infection control. This course covers a wide range of topics.

Upon completion of the 256-hour Patient Care Technician Program, students will meet the requirements to take the PCT, Phlebotomy, and EKG technician certification exams through the National Healthcareer Association and be prepared to challenge the CNA licensing exam.  You will receive a certificate of successful completion for each program section (EKG, Phlebotomy, PCT/CNA)You could end up receiving FOUR certifications! (Additional Phlebotomy, EKG, CNA exam, study guide, and practice test fees paid separately.)

EKG Technician 

This course provides training for administering and reading EKGs.  The course includes anatomy and physiology and disease processes that affect the heart, medications, Holter monitoring, 12-lead EKG, analyzing EKG readings, and much more.  A two-year BLS Healthcare Provider Certification is included in this course.

Students may be eligible for the exam voucher(s) listed next to their completed course if they passed all portions of their course. Only one test voucher per student, per eligible exam type. Retake vouchers are only available to students who have attempted their included exam and provided results to HCC|ICCE staff.

  • Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A): Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A – retest), EKG Technician (CET), Phlebotomy Technician (PCT), Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)
  • Phlebotomy Technician (CPT): Phlebotomy Technician (PCT – retest)
  • EKG Technician (CET): EKG Technician (CET – retest)
