The TECO Tampa Electric Scholarship Opportunity

Hillsborough Community College (HCC) and Tampa Electric (TECO) partnered to invest in the Electrical Lineworker Training Program through the HCC Foundation and Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education. The Hillsborough Community College Electrical Lineworker Training Program is a scholarship-based program designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and basic skills needed when seeking a career in the electric utility industry as an Apprentice Lineworker.  Our training program equips scholarship recipients with the skills and knowledge needed to apply for the TECO Apprentice Lineworker position.

  • HCC is not involved in TECO employment opportunities.
  • HCC does not determine the hiring schedule or hiring processes of TECO or other employers.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Start Date:  03/24/26
End Date: 06/30/26
Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Time:  8:00 AM to 2:00 PM SHARP (Plus weekly online homework)
Location:  HCC Brandon Campus
Tuition:  $6,500.00
If all requirements are met (see #6 under Scholarship Process), students will receive a TECO scholarship award totaling $6,500.00; the full cost of the program.
 
The following certificates will be earned during the program:
  • OSHA 10-Hour
  • CPR & AED
  • First Aid

 


SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS

  4. You will receive an email from HCC-ICCE staff to attend Discovery Bootcamp (pre-program orientation), to register for the bootcamp the cost is $93.00. 
  5. Attend the bootcamp: Saturday, February 21, 2026
  6. Scholarship eligibility requirements:
    • Pass the Discovery Bootcamp
    • Pass the BSTB Battery Standard Aptitude Test
    • Pass a level 2 background check
    • Pass a drug test – This eligibility requirement includes but is not limited to recreational drugs, including medical marijuana.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s):

  1. The scholarship opportunity cost is intended exclusively for your program fee and program-related expenses; you are responsible for personal expenses. Attendance is required for all program dates and times. 
  2. We reserve the right to cancel any program or course that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements or for other administrative or logistical reasons.
  3. All communication is via email; check your inbox and spam for emails from HCC-ICCE regarding the Electrical Lineworker Program. Allow 2 to 3 business days for applicable replies.
  4. Only one scholarship per individual.
  5. You cannot pay for the ELW Program out of pocket.
  6. The bootcamp will take place outside in the elements and you will be expected to perform physical tasks/activities. Endurance and stamina are important. Bootcamp tasks may be as follows; but not limited to strenuous: lifting, digging, climbing, and walking.
  7. You will receive a refund for the bootcamp registration fee if: You do not attend the bootcamp. You do not pass the bootcamp. You do not pass the BSTB Aptitude Test.
